At Crown casino in Melbourne Australia they have a version of Blackjack called Blackjack Plus that pays 3-2 however if the dealers cards total 22 all hands (apart from blackjack) are a stand off. People still sit down and play! Crazy.

Ceasers casinos on the strip have lower the payouts on trips playing ultmate texas holdem to paying 7 to 1 on a full house instead of 8to 1,and paying 20 to 1 on quads instead of 30 to 1 That pure greed.

I think "6:5" and "3:2" are terrible, albeit accurate, descriptions in the first place. Nobody thinks in numbers like that. I think 1.2:1 and 1.5:1, or even 1 1/5:1 and 1 1/2:1 are more useful.

I honestly think that it is a combination of both: casino's greediness and player's stupidity. It's hard to believe that some players actually consider 6-5 blackjack tables or continuous automatic shuffler in blackjack. I tend to avoid them in my city, but tourists let themselves get scammed.

Odds against the player on the strip are getting worse and worse! Higher limit tables too. Maybe that’s the reason the tables are empty now. I’ve been going to Vegas since 1972 and play mostly at South Pointe and Red Rock, casinos that still have favorable odds for the players on most table games.

000 Roulette and 6:5 Blackjack are the worst examples I think because they fundamentally alter the balance of the game without adding anything. I would much rather see casinos offer a bunch of carnival games, wacky sidebets, and progressive jackpots while retaining the base rules of the game than implement changes that are just a blatant cash grab.

So the last 5 times I started heading to the casino I turned the car around after driving about 1-2 miles into the 50 mile trip. I simply made a u-turn and did something different (got a bite to eat, bowled, went to a movie, etc). I think after losing enough times you just realize it's a losing proposition and you will always be better off just not going. It takes hitting rock bottom perhaps to get to this point, but as much fun as it is, I realize it's just not worth it.

Bottom line is players are just dumb and the casinos love taking advantage of the stupidity. I’ve heard people playing triple zero roulette talk about how they love it because it gives them more spots on the table to win. I’ve also talked to blackjack players who say the 6/5 blackjack doesn’t bother them because they don’t get blackjacks very often. Throw in the proliferation of the carnival version of craps in the form of crapless or my favorite marketing idea on the bubble machine where they call it “easy craps.” 99% of players are going to lose over any significant period of time when it’s a fair game. These new variations eliminate the 1% and ensure the 99% lose their money even faster.

Add the Carnival side bets as well as the design as high plus volatility machines are now mostly dominant what can we say? sadly the large majority of players casual and even many hardcore are still in the dark. In the end it is all on the player not forgeting like all businesses the Casinos tweak any edge they can get. I do find Local and tribal Casinos do still have old school gaming unlike where the strip is headed.
